Which means that one of the pilots already wants to engage in melee because that's what he's best at.

Ammo loadouts are also intentionally an issue. The mecha have low amounts of ammo to start with, and there's no replenishment. So the PCs are realizing they need to preserve ammo, and that means going to melee against the weaker giants, and only using modern weapons against the largest giants or when they're about to be overwhelmed.

They've also recently discovered that when you're a 4-6 ton armored car, it's okay to hit a guy who only weighs 2-3 tons: a slam at full speed might stagger a mecha, but it will send the SM+2 giants into -HP range. So they're having fun with that.

More detail on the campaign and the vehicles at http://ottgaming.grimoire.ca/MAGT/MainMark Langsdorfhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00301984145275679568noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1287550692312955328.post-47984622483422254722014-11-26T22:11:54.216-08:002014-11-26T22:11:54.216-08:00Nice concept! - I enjoyed the detailed article. So...Nice concept! - I enjoyed the detailed article. Sounds like something I'd like to try out some time (especially if any players were Attack on Titan fans or something).

Agree about damage divisors - I've rarely seen a situation where it didn't make more logical sense and playability to double (or whatever) the HP; the main exception is when the damage divisor applies to a particular weapon type.

- I'm curious if there are circumstances that might compel a Ritter to engage in hand to hand combat, or if they'd always prefer ranged battle. Ammo loadouts may be critical here - if they limited amount of replacement ammo, PCs might opt to engage hand to hand against weaker giants.

David Pulverhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00857524962421597982noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1287550692312955328.post-57786491799154851202014-11-03T12:26:46.034-08:002014-11-03T12:26:46.034-08:00I'd been thinking about all of this for a few ...I'd been thinking about all of this for a few days, but it took about 2 hours to write it all out after I sat down and tried. Having authorized stats for all the equipment, and consistent scaling rules for strength and size, was a big help.

I did think briefly about damage divisors, but it good weird quick: if the giants have divisors, why don't the PCs? And in general, I think that generic damage divisors should often be replaced with just increasing HP, though there consequences for DR there.

Emily, although I do intended to set my MapTools scale to 5 yds/hex, I'm worried about people just counting hexes for short distances and then getting confused. It's a really minor worry, though.Mark Langsdorfhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00301984145275679568noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1287550692312955328.post-27556320141208615022014-11-02T06:27:45.416-08:002014-11-02T06:27:45.416-08:00Set your scale on the maptool map to be 5 per hex ...Set your scale on the maptool map to be 5 per hex - you do that at map creation.
